Comme pour les joints en acier, le joint en bronze de qualit\u00e9 roulement de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 s&#039;appuie sur la viscosit\u00e9 du mat\u00e9riau pour cr\u00e9er un joint entre les rainures du joint et l&#039;arbre de transmission. Ce joint \u00e0 l\u00e8vre comprend une plaque \u00e0 l&#039;extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du joint qui verrouille les anneaux du joint d&#039;\u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9, rendant le joint \u00e9tanche \u00e0 l&#039;int\u00e9rieur comme \u00e0 l&#039;ext\u00e9rieur. Tout mat\u00e9riau qui migre \u00e0 travers le joint s&#039;\u00e9coulera d&#039;abord dans la garniture, puis dans la nouvelle cartouche de joint \u00e0 l\u00e8vre et enfin dans la \u00ab plaque suiveuse \u00bb qui est scell\u00e9e avec un joint torique. Ces trois composants se combinent pour \u00e9liminer les fuites m\u00eame des mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 tr\u00e8s faible viscosit\u00e9.
